The Carsonville-Port Sanilac Tigers travel to Peck Thursday night, October 17th to square off in their annual football matchup.  This year’s matchup features several firsts for the familiar foes, however.

The two schools, the smallest by enrollment in Sanilac County, were both charter members of the North Central Thumb League.  Two of the first small schools in the state to switch to 8-man football, the schools boast three state championships between them.  This year’s matchup will be the first as divisional opponents in the newly formed Big Thumb Conference.  The Pirates are currently fighting for a playoff spot, while the Tigers are looking to get in the win column.  Peck is led by first year coach Andrew Morrison and Mark Beamish is at the helm for the Tigers.

This will be the first “trophy game” between the two schools with the winner taking home the Liberty-Travis Shield.  The trophy is meant to symbolize and honor the connection between the two schools.  It is named after Bob Liberty, longtime teacher, administrator and football coach at Peck High School and Gale Travis, who taught, coached, served as athletic director, principal and superintendent at CPS Schools.  The CPS football field is named in his honor.  Mr. Liberty passed away in 2022 and was just recently announced as an inaugural inductee in the athletic hall of fame at Peck.  Mr. Travis served CPS for more than forty years and still lives in Port Sanilac.

Kickoff is slated for 7 pm at Peck High School.  The winning school will be presented with the shield to display for the year by Peck Athletic Director, James Welch and Gale Travis representing CPS.  Come out and support great 8-man football action!
