Please be aware that Peck Community Schools will no longer be renting out tables and chairs as it has in the past. This is due to a variety of reasons which include damage to furniture, furniture not being clean when returned, and some items not being returned at all.

Congratulations!!
Elementary MORNING ENTRANCE
Please remember that students who walk or get dropped off at school should not be here before 7:45 a.m. When students arrive at school they are to either go down and eat breakfast if they are eating at school or they are to line up with their peers. No student is to go to their locker before the students are dismissed from the line to go down to their classrooms with the exception of 6th grade safety patrol students. Unless students are dropped off out back and walk through the hallway to get to the lines they are not to be in the hallway prior to the start of the school day. We request that parents drop off their students and let students get themselves prepared and into class as we need our students to be independent. If you need to communicate with the teacher please send in a note or set up a conference time with the teacher. Do not enter the classroom to “help” students get their stuff ready as this does not promote the independence that students need in order to be successful.
District WELCOME
We would like to welcome Danielle Bezotte to our elementary staff. Through an increase in our Title I funding we were able to add a Reading teacher position to work with our struggling readers to help them get up to grade level. Danielle comes to us with very strong skills, strategies and training in teaching struggling readers and we are excited to have her on board. She will start working with students on Monday, January 30, 2012. We also welcome Ashley Stephenson, who is a student teacher through Saginaw Valley State University in our kindergarten classroom. She will be with us until this spring. She is already learning a lot and jumping in to get her feet wet with teaching kindergarteners.
Elementary STOP/WALK/TALK
Peck elementary staff members have been trained in a bullying prevention and intervention program. We will be training our students in this program within the next couple of weeks. This is a program designed to teach victims of bullying how to stop the bullying, bystanders who witness bullying how to step in and stop the bullying, bullies how to stop bullying and respond when told to stop and adults how to be consistent and to step in stop bullying situations. Ask your child to have them let you know what Stop/Walk/Talk means when they learn about it at our assembly that is coming up soon.

Jr./Sr. High School YEARBOOKS
2010 / 2011 yearbooks are in. Please see Miss Davidson to pick up your yearbook.
On Friday, November 4th the parents of Peck Community Schools’ students were treated to a free meal and the opportunity to participate in classroom activities like their children do during the school day. Parents learned about and experienced the new technologies our school has implemented. For example, math and science teachers Todd Prill, Amanda Osantoski, and Carrie Robinet taught parents how to use our new cutting-edge graphing calculators. After giving a short history lesson highlighting Peck alumni, social studies teacher Bob Karasiewicz and industrial arts teacher Jamie Quicksall challenged parents with a fun quiz using the new Smart Response system, which provides immediate feedback. English teacher Julia Cramer demonstrated our new document cameras and over-head projectors, along with engaging teaching tools like Prezi, PowerPoint, and Visuwords. Finally, social studies/foreign language teacher Joanna Holiday-Kinel demonstrated and offered parents the experience of blended-learning using Moodle, our online course management system, which is used in several of her classes. Those who attended were delighted with the surprisingly rich and engaging technology their children learn with at Peck Community Schools. Parent involvement is important to the success of our students and the school; we appreciate all those who attended.
Jr./Sr. High School PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES
Thank you to all of the parents that showed up to conferences. We heard many positive comments from you. Any time you have questions or concerns please call the school at 810-378-5200. In addition you can email school staff if you choose. The staff at Peck Schools is very good about responding to your emails.
Elementary PE NUT GRANT
Peck Elementary School is part of the PE Nut grant which is funded by the USDA. You will see more information about this grant soon. It does not provide actual money for our school but a lot of resources, materials and nutrition education for our students. It is focused on kindergarten, 2nd, and 4th grades but students from all of the grades will get the benefits of some of the nutrition education information.
